Writer's Workshop
*Children learned that words in our room can be a resource when they are writing - we noticed the words all around us on the calendar, name charts, morning message, posters, birthday board.... and the children each thought of something in the room that they could put a word sign on, like Mr. Red, our pumpkin, the kitchen, our window butterflies and more! Everyone got to add a word to our room.
Literacy Center
Today all the children completed individual literacy assessments on our iPads. They thought it was fun - anything on an iPad is apparently a big hit!
Reader's Workshop
*Today's lesson - good readers keep their eyes on their books! Children practiced while reading individually and everyone succeeded!
Story
We read, "Our Hands Are For Caring and Helping", a book made by our counselor, Mrs. Benoit to help review safe and kind behavior in our classroom.
The children listened with closed eyes as I described York Maine hundreds of years ago - fields, woods, rivers, animals and Native Americans! When they opened their eyes I shared a poster depicting Native American life long ago and the children compared their imaginings to the poster.
Song - We learned a new song about Native Americans - "Land of the Silver Birch".
Math
Children were introduced to 10 frames and used 10 counters to fill them up! We then practiced showing different quantities on the 10 frame and noticed how many ways this could be done. 6 could be 3+3, or 2+2+2 or 5+1, etc.
Special - Library time with Mrs. Burns and Mrs. Hayward (a substitute for Mrs. Rowan)
