The children did some revising today to complete their published, "How To" books. They read their new editions to their stuffed pets and a writing buddy ! Literacy *Introduction to new just right books *penmanship practice - Bb *"Me and My Friend" booklets - adding words to tell about what you can do with a stuffed animal Reader's Workshop *Lesson about commas - children were asked to look for them in their reading books and mark the spot whre they found one with a stickie Math Dice addition game board on the floor with stuffed animals Story - "Marvin Gets Mad" Special - Music class with Mrs. Perkins, a substitute for Mrs. Keating Sea Riddle Share - Olivia Parent Volunteer - Shelley Coite Writer's Workshop Children reviewed all their How-To booklets and chose one for publication. They created a cover and illustration and spent some time revising if needed. Literacy *Work on a "Farm Book". Children added text to each illustrated page. *Review of just right books from yesterday - drawing and writing the most important part. Reader's Workshop Children looked for exclamation points in their just right books and marked one with a sticky. We discussed the difference between an exclamation and a period at the end of a sentence. Math *We estimated and counted how many more bottle caps we were adding to our class collection. *Introduction to the "Function Machine" Story - "Marvin Gets Mad!" We reviewed a "mentor" text to see how the author organized their "How To" book. The children were invited to try some of their ideas, like making important words bold.
