Today's Activities
Writer's Workshop
Children wrote collaboratively today to create a "how-to" for a snow day. We learned how to spell the word, "you" so we could practice speaking directly to the reader, telling them what to do ("you can go sledding").
Math
We learned a new math game, "Fishing". The teacher thinks of an attribute that several children shares and goes "fishing" for those children, bringing them to the front of the room. The rest of the class must guess what attribute the children have in common (snowpants on, or same color shirt, etc.)
We played this game in small groups with attribute blocks. The leader secretly chooses a shape and the rest of the group asks questions to help whittle down the fish pond, "is it yellow?", is it a rectangle?", etc. Each incorrect guess helps to reduce the guesswork as the children remove the pieces with that shape or size.
100's Day Share

*Read to self (practicing fluency, "reading like a story teller")
