Today's Activities
Writer's Workshop
We took a little break today from our how-to writing to write what we have learned about Mexico. The children brainstormed a list together, choosing a topic that they could share in a new class book! This new book will be coming to your home sometime soon!
Math Centers
*Using the pan balance to predict and compare the weight of various objects - reviewing the terms heavier and lighter and what they looks like on a balance scale.
*Creating a graph - each child organized their materials to make a graph showing how many of each color dinosaur they had. They shared their results with me, telling which was more, less, or the same. Some children could tell me how many more of one group there were than another.
*Review of th 3 dimensional shape names. The Children use the flat side of each shape to stamp with paint and to show what 2D shape is part of that solid shape.
Story - "Cookie's Week", about a naughty kitten that makes a new mess each day of the week!
Reader's Workshop
We discussed the special "powers" the children have to help them read, especially a new word:
*reread power
*pointer power
*snap word power
*sound power
*partner power
*persistence power
We talked about sometimes you need to "activate" more than one power when you get stuck.
