Today's Activities
Writing
The children made cards for Kaden's dad in honor of Veteran's Day. They thought of drawings that would make him smile and wrote words of thanks. We will mail the cards with a small care package from the VFW.
Video
We watched a Scholastic video about Veteran's Day. It explained the 5 branches of the military and their mission to help keep peace in the world.
Math
We worked on writing the numbers 1-10 on our November calendars.
We played Count and Sit (to 6)
I shared the children's triangle depictions from home (as review)
Native American Mural
The children are using what they know about Maine Native American life long ago to create a mural depicting a Maine village. They have worked on the background over the course of a few days (painting) and today created the people to populate the village. Next week we will add some forest, gardens, and animals.
A Wigwam is My Home
The children have read this poem and illustrated it. They practiced reading it together today and will bring it home to read with (or to) you.
Mrs. Bracy did a little presentation about her Native American Heritage. Her uncle, Grandfather Maple is part of the Abenaki nation. She was able to share his photo with the children and talk a little bit about her memories of her Native roots.
Special - Library
Substitute - Mrs. Kim has here in place of Mrs. Bourgeois this afternoon.
