Today's Activities
Writer's Workshop
The children continue to plan their stories over 3 pages, touching and telling what part of the true story they will write on each page.
We learned that good true stories tell "who", what", and "where". The children were asked to check their stories and see if they had included these pieces."
Math
*Introduction to the game, "Monster Squeeze". The children have to guess the mystery number by suggesting numbers from 0-10, the game host gives clues as to whether the number is more or less than the guess to help the audience find the number.
*more practice describing and comparing geometrical shapes (straight lines, curvy lines, corners, angles, sides)
*number writing practice, 1-10 on an October calendar
Story
"Skeleton Hiccups" - a simple funny and predictable story that the children were able to help read (repetitive text - "hic, hic, hic!')
Science
We talked about the changes we are experiencing with the change of seasons from summer to fall. We went outdoors to observe a maple tree in full Fall foliage and had fun drawing our observations outdoors.
Social Studies
We examine some examples of Native American artifacts and discussed how they might have been used long ago in Maine.
Assembly
Our school wide assembly today focused on bus safety. Eight members of our class helped to present a bus safety skit.
Specials: P.E. and Music
