Today's Activities
Writer's Workshop
The children learned about "Snap" words, words that they can spell in a snap - they don't need to stretch them or sound them out, they just know them, "in a snap!"
We practiced making a new word a snap word by taking a picture of the word with our eyes, putting it in our brain, and then practicing it! Many children used their snap words during our writing time today!
Maker Space
We visited the Maker Space this where we were led in an activity to make drums under the direction of Mrs. Burns and Mrs. Dupre, our librarians. We watched a short video about how important drums are in the Native community, used today and long ago for social gatherings, music, dance, and special rituals..
We had a discussion about bartering and how important it was long ago to barter for things you might need and didn't have. The each small group of children bartered with another group for the materials they needed to make their drum. I am including some pictures here for you to see the engaged in this project. We will use the drums at our Pow Wow this week.
