Today's Activities
Writer's Workshop
The children were introduced to a checklist to help them set goals for their writing. They needed to check to see if they use spaces, capitals at the beginning, periods, that their pictures and their words match, and that they wrote as many sounds for each word that they could.
Math Centers
* Introduction to 3 dimensional shapes: cylinder, sphere, cube, rectangular prism, cone, and pyramid. They looked to identify objects in our room that had these shapes. They also looked to see what 2 dimensional shapes they could "spy" on these solid shapes.
Story
"Snow Bears" - we discussed how we could tell that this was a "story" about bears and not a non-fiction book.
Literacy Centers
*iPads - letter work - identifying sounds at the beginning of words (and a choice to move on to spelling words to match given pictures)
*Draw and Write about what you like to do in the winter
*Scholastic News - Groundhog Day and video
Special - Library
Volunteer - Mr. Olsson
