Writer's Workshop
Children continued their how-to on getting ready to play in the snow. They finished their writing and added pictures, and practiced reading their booklet.
Math Centers
*Introduction to using a double 10 frame to build teen numbers. "A teen number is 10 plus some more" (ones).
*Playing Top-It ("war") with number cards 0-20
*building teen numbers with paper chains - 10 red chains plus some more green (to build a specific number)
Literacy Centers
*Introduction to a new booklet, "Snowy Day". Children practiced reading and responding to questions in the text with a "yes" or "no".
*Continued work on Mexican artwork
*Finishing up our Snow Day, Write the Room
Story - "One Snowy Night", the story of a hedgehog who wakes up in the middle of the winter to find a present (a hat), which he passes on to another friend....

Today's lesson was about "picture power", how checking the picture before you read can help you read some new words especially if you check the first letter of the tricky word and think about the sound.
