Today's Activities
Writer's Workshop
Our goal today was to review and practice how to write without adult assistance. Children were reminded about using resources, to reread to remind themselves what comes next, and to pay attention to only their work. They did a much better job today and succeeded in meeting these goals!
Math
*Work with a pan balance - children used clay as a medium to balance other objects. Vocabulary that was used: heavier, lighter, equal, heaviest, lightest
*Work with calculators - children learned how to "count" with the calculator by using the + button. We practiced counting to 20 by 1's and to 100 by 10"s.
Literacy centers
*Introduction to new "just right" books
*Reading a Scholastic News about leprechauns and completing a graph about green items.
Reader's Workshop
Children reviewed the "powers" that make you a super reader:
reread, listen for sounds, touch each word, use the pictures for clues, read with a partner, be persistent (don't give up!)
Children read to and with their reading partner
