Today's Activities
Writer's Workshop
The children were introduced to the concept of "snap words" - words that you don't even have to think about "stretching" because you know how to spell them in a snap (like their own name and "mom", "and", "the"). Writing these words quickly and easily helps to keep the writing moving right along.
Math
*Making different combinations for a given number using a ten frame (8 can be 4+4, 6+2, etc.)
*Reading numbers to 20 - dot-to-dot
*Comparing length - find and draw something longer than you and something shorter than you.
Literacy
*Segmenting the 3 sounds in a short word using "sound boxes" - pushing up a cube into each box to isolate the 3 sounds in a given word (picture)
*Listening for the initial sounds in words and sorting the ones that are the same.
*Introduction to a new kindergarten reader, "Playing". The predictable text followed this pattern, "I am in the ___". (playhouse, tub, fort, etc.)
Story
"Thanks to the Animals" - a Maine Native folk tale
Volunteers - Yvonne Topping, Jane Morris (AM)
Family Share - Julianna, and Noah
