Today's Activities
Writing
The children independently created a HowTo piece of writing as a culminating activity for this type of writing. It was a challenge for some but everyone got their ideas on their paper and worked without any adult assistance - progress! :)
Math
*We used a walk on floor number line to add and subtract numbers determined by rolling an operation die,
(+ or -), and number die.
*We reviewed 3D shapes and matched them to everyday objects (party hats, ice cream cones, boxes, globes)
*Quick Look cards - children look at a double ten frame (with dots to represent a given number) for just 3 seconds and then have to tell how many they saw and how they saw it, "I saw 10, there were 5 on each frame and I know 5+5=10").
Reader's Workshop
We reviewed how to share a book with a reading partner: tell them the title, and share your favorite part or tell them what the story is about.
Literacy centers
*working with consonant digraphs: th, wh, ph, sh, ch, - we call them the "H Brothers". Children matched their picture to the corresponding digraph.
*penmanship - draw and write for the letter J.
Story
We read, "Not Norman" about a boy who thought having a fish for a pet was boring but then learned how clever his fish was.
Special - Art Studio, the children painted their drawings from last week.
