Today's activities
Writer's Workshop
The children were asked to try something different today - I dictated a sentence to them and asked them to write it! We will be doing this for the next 4 writing sessions to help boost confidence with independent writing. The children have the skills they need to stretch and write words but many lack the confidence to persevere. I believe that with this practice the children will realize that they can be successful without an adult leading the way! They all did a great job today! :)
Math
*Assessment - drawing and writing a number story with pictures and a number model.
*The disappearing train game - children roll a number die and an operation die to determine if they should add or subtract "cars" from their train.
Reader's Workshop
We looked at the word patterns that are in many beginning readers and discussed how these word patterns can help you read with more confidence and fluency. The children practiced reading their just right books in their book bags.
Literacy centers
*Children were introduced to new just right books.
*Lion or Lamb weather? the children had to decide which weather picture was like a lion or a lamb!
Story
"I Love My New Toy!", a Piggie and Elephant story
Special - Art studio, painting their clay art
Share - Andrew
