Today's Activities
Writer's Workshop
Today's lesson was about using a "true voice" when telling a story - to not pick easy words or pictures just to make the job easier, to use your writing "muscles" to tackle even difficult to spell words. This helps to make the story more interesting to the reader.
Math
*number writing practice
*attribute block guessing game - "Can You Guess My Shape?"
*number story illustrations and simple sentences (5 apples + 2 apples)
Story
"The Carrot Seed" by Ruth Krauss and "Pete the Cat at the Beach"
Reader's Workshop
Our lesson today was to look for words that you know on each page of a familiar story. For example, most of the children are able to point out the words, "trip trap, trip, trap" in the Three Billy Goats Gruff because we have read it many times!
Literacy Centers
*we played, Say it, Take it! We are working on stretching words... fox becomes f...ox. Children had to give these kind of clues to a partner who then would pick the appropriate matching picture.
*Identifying how many syllables game
*Discrimination between initial letter sounds in a sorting game
