Today's Activities
School Pictures
Writer's Workshop
*today we discussed how writers choose a "topic" and stick to it throughout their book. We looked at some examples of non-fiction ("teaching books") and noted how they were all about trains, or trees, or animals, etc.
The children have been invited to create their own books - to tell many ideas about one topic! They can do one page at a time and then staple their new page onto their growing books!
Math
We only had time for our daily math routines today - counting how many days we've come to school, counting up to today's date in September, and reading the weather report.
Story
We read, "Frog on a Log" a funny rhyming story about animals that had to sit on something that rhymed with their name - snakes on cakes, cats on mats, gorillas on pillars, etc. Great for rhyming practice!
Literacy Centers
*Each child completed a guessing game for their parents for tomorrow night
*We read a Scholastic News about Apples and watched a short video about apples too.
*Children drew and told about what they like to do in September.
Book Buddies
Mrs. Sherman's first grade class came to meet their kindergarten reading buddies. Today the first graders read to the kindergarteners.
