Field Trip to White Pine
Our activities at White Pine:
*storytelling by Native American David Sanipass in Moose Lodge
* debris shelter demonstration (how to make a shelter with branches and leaves
* observing and helping to make a dead fall trap for small animals
* demonstration of making a fire with a bow drill
* learning about what was available in nature to eat long ago and today - demonstration in an outdoor "kitchen"
* crushing acorns with rocks (acorns were an abundant food source for people here in N.E. long ago
* David Sanipass led us on a "deer" hunt through the woods. He used his bow and arrow to simulate a hunt. Our hunters were silent creeping through the woods to find the deer ( a teenage lad playing the deer).
We had lunch in the great outdoors and then returned to school for quiet time, drawing and writing about White Pine, music and p.e.!
What a busy, fun, educational day!
