Today's Activities
Writer's Workshop
We talked again about how teaching books (non fiction) have topics, like trees, food, dinosaurs, space, etc.
The children are invited to make their own books about a topic they know a lot about - each page teaches us something different!
Math
*What does "5" look like? This is the question the children were asked today - show me 5 with your fingers, now show me a different way. They used different objects to build the number 5: 4+1, 1+1+1+2, etc.
*We learned that a graph shows information using pictures. The children each contributed their age number to our graph. We discovered that we have 2 six year olds and 13 five year olds!
Story
We read, "Night Animals", a story about nocturnal animals who were afraid of "what goes bump in the night"!
Literacy Centers
*We learned that when we have Reader's Workshop that readers can read two different ways: privately or with a partner. We practiced both ways of "reading".
*We continue to learn more about each others names - children did pinprick designs with the letters in their names.
* We sang the alphabet song with sounds too, "Learning the Letter Sounds".
Specials
Music and P.E.
