Today's Activities
Writer's Workshop
The children were introduced to a writing checklist this morning as a means to check their own work when they think they are done.
They are being asked to check for a capital at the beginning, punctuation at the end, spaces between words, that their pictures and their words match, and that they have stretched their words to record all the sounds they can hear.
Math
*We worked with positional words today. Children were asked to move a small frog to many different places around their bodies - over, under, behind, in front, around, through, to the right and left, on, in, and by.
*Children were asked to create 4 different representations of a given number - the number 5 could be 5 dots, or 2 + 3 flowers, or 5 fingers on one hand, etc.
Literacy
Children were introduced to our 5th spelling word today - "we". We read a short predictable booklet that featured this word on every page - "We see.....". The children practiced reading the text together and the individually with an adult. The booklet will come home later this week. It is titled, "In The Fall".
Reader's Workshop
Children practiced retelling a familiar storybook, using character's voices (if appropriate).
Special - PE and Music
Volunteers: Diana Russo, and Molly Fox
